On Monday 16th December, I spent the evening ‘Down the Local’
with our wonderful Senior Academy!
Well…not exactly! The ‘Down the Local’ in this instance was The Canolfan, Gorseinon, where we meet every Monday to train in Musical Theatre and to rehearse our productions. Last night, the Senior Academy showcased their talent in the informal and intimate setting of their ‘local’ to family members and friends.
This term, we concentrated on ‘GROWTH’, ensuring that all students worked on an area that they were least experienced in or that they most wanted to develop. This meant a whole term on either Acting, Singing orย Dancing and a chance for every student to showcase a solo, duet or small group piece that they had worked on. In addition, they performed three fabulous Musical Theatre numbers from very different musical genres.
The evening was performed using a ‘traverse’ theatre setting, which meant the audience were either side of the performers and this lent itself to a very intimate staging which was very well received.
We ended the evening with a glass of bubbly and a mince pie to wish all our members, families and friends a Merry Christmas and it was lovely to mingle with everyone and celebrate the evenings’ success.
Huge congratulations go to all the students, many of whom stepped in for others who were off sick, due to all the nasty bugs doing the rounds – Thank you to David, Jake & Sam in particular, but well done everyone! What a lovely evening!
